…and that’s pretty awesome.
Not the fact that they are gay as such, but the fact that I am meeting so many open-minded people and get to make friends with them. That part is awesome.
Despite having started my life as a homophobe, I am now in a position where I cringe at my school-time mentality. But what would you expect from a boy raised in a small Christian community with old values, and a REALLY bad encounter with his first openly gay person?
I was probably a bit harsh with my well-expressed views and difficult to be friends with or even be around, for some people, I realise now. I have friends that have kept their sexuality hidden. And as a few of my old friends have revealed their attractions, I realise they are still my friends after all my shit.
That’s the best. These people rock.
And now I find that I get along the best, with people who push boundaries. I openly embrace new things and people with open minds… but I’m pretty sure I’m still straight myself.
